Natural disasters can be devastating for animals, leaving them vulnerable and displaced. During events such as hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, or floods, animals often face immediate threats such as injury, loss of habitat/homes, and food scarcity. For example, wildfires can quickly destroy vast areas of forests and even communities, as seen in early 2025 in California, leaving animals without shelter and forcing them to flee. Floodwaters can trap or sweep animals away, taking them far from home. The chaos is scary for pets and owners.

When a natural disaster strikes, what happens to all the household pets and farm animals? As witnessed in the California wildfires, residents had to act fast. Animals were taken by car and trailers to safe locations, but sometimes, due to spreading fires, animals had to be relocated from one location to another. During an emergency, it's challenging to manage and keep record of who goes where. Emergency Management Collaborations has a solution for reuniting family members and their beloved animals. Similar to Family Reunification, we have the ability to keep accurate records of where pets are being held and/or relocated, ensuring they can be safely returned to their families.

Natural disasters highlight the interconnectedness of all living beings and the importance of preparedness and support for both humans and animals. By understanding the impact of these events on animals, we can work towards creating more resilient and compassionate communities that prioritize the well-being of all inhabitants.
